lookthatup basically works as a search engine, but instead of keywords lookthatup uses images to search for content in the lookthatup database. lookthatup works best on photos taken of flat objects such as paintings, game covers and movie posters.

The image will only be matched if it is in the database (see below). You can also add your own lookups that were not matched to the database. That way, next time you, or someone else, takes a photo of the same thing, you will get a match.

lookthatup is powered by image recognition technology that matches your photo against a database of images and links. Sometimes lookthatup won't recognize your 'lookup'. This is probably because the item isn’t in the lookthatup database, but it can also be because of bad lighting, too much glare or simply because the object is not recognizable. You can still share, bookmark and add your unrecognized 'lookups' to the global lookthatup database.
